Farm Policy Outlook: Will Politics Trump Economics?

Farm Policy Outlook: Will Politics Trump Economics?

Thursday, November 15, 2018 10:30 AM
Presented By: Brad Lubben, Extension Policy Specialist, University of Nebraska-Lincoln

Farm bill legislation and farm programs have traditionally provided an economic safety net for producers to help protect farm income and manage risk. A new farm bill is expected to maintain that safety net and offer producers a new ARC vs. PLC enrollment decision in 2019. However, economics can often be overshadowed by politics in Washington, and the politics of farm policy, trade policy, and bioenergy policy present real risks and uncertainty for producers. This presentation will cover current issues and developments in these policy areas and provide guidance for producer decisions in the year ahead.
